How to Raise Nature Loving Kids

March 11, 2026

One of the biggest things I hope to give my kids is a love for the outdoors. Not in a big dramatic way. Just a simple, everyday appreciation for being outside. It’s important to me that they care about our planet and animals.

I have a kindergartener and an almost two year old, so our days are not exactly peaceful nature walks through the woods. Most of the time it’s chaos and everyone gets dirty, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Those little messy moments outside are exactly what builds a love for nature over time.

Raising Kids Who Aren’t Constantly Entertained

March 10, 2026

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much kids these days are used to being entertained. Between tablets, TV, and toys that do everything for them, it can feel like a constant fight to keep them engaged with anything that doesn’t beep or flash. I have a kindergartener and an almost 2-year-old, so I see it in action every day.

Sometimes I see how many other kids are engaging with technology at such a young age and it can feel kind of dystopian. I also sometimes feel like the odd one out, making the decision to not allow these things for my kids. So, I wanted to write a post wrapping up some of my thoughts so they’re not bopping around in my head.

March 6, 2026

“I’m too busy sitting still” has been my line for the past two years.

This world is too fast for me and I’ve wanted something different for myself and my kids for a little while now. These are strictly my opinions and preferences and reactions to the world around me. It’s important for me to live what I believe, and this is how that plays out.

Screen Free Road Trip Activities for Kids

March 6, 2026

We do a lot of driving as a family. Living on Long Island means that even a simple weekend adventure usually involves a decent amount of time in the car (traffic getting on/off LI is dreadful)! One of our most common trips is heading from Long Island to Connecticut, and we make that drive at least once a month.

With two little kids in the backseat, I’ve learned that having a few simple activities ready can make the difference between a peaceful drive and a very long one. The good news is that road trip entertainment for kids doesn’t have to be complicated. A few small things packed ahead of time can keep little hands busy for quite a while.

How to Have a Screen Free Summer with Your Kids

July 9, 2025

11 days ago, I unplugged the TV in our living room. “It just broke!” I told Baby M (who is very much not a baby anymore, and is in fact a vibrant 4.5 year old now). It only took her less than a minute to figure out that it was unplugged, but not before I swiftly swapped the batteries from their proper cathodes. We haven’t turned it on since. We haven’t had to.
