Calling all coffee lovers! Today we have a list of 12+ coffee themed pregnancy announcements. I thought this list would be a darling way to “spill the beans” (haha- get it?) about a new pregnancy.
If you’re looking to incorporate coffee into your pregnancy announcement, look no further!
Drinking coffee while pregnant
Can I drink coffee while pregnant?
Yes, you can typically enjoy coffee while pregnant, but in moderation. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) advises limiting caffeine intake to 200 milligrams per day, which is roughly equivalent to one 12-ounce cup of coffee. High levels of caffeine during pregnancy may be linked to complications like low birth weight or miscarriage, so it’s best to keep track of your intake. With both pregnancies, there were definitely days that I went over or under that amount.
If you’re struggling to cut back, try half-caff coffee or switch to decaf for the flavor without the extra caffeine. And remember, it’s always a good idea to check with your healthcare provider about what’s safe for you and your baby. I remember drinking a can of Coca-Cola when I had a headache when pregnant, and that would always make it better (probably due to the caffeine!).
Another thing to note is that coffee lovers might be completely turned off to the smell or taste while pregnant. With my second pregnancy I could barely finish my mug due to morning sickness.
Can I drink coffee while breastfeeding?
This is a tricky one! The good news is that most breastfeeding moms can enjoy coffee in moderation without any issues. Caffeine does pass into your breast milk, but usually in amounts too small to bother most babies. The general recommendation is to keep your caffeine intake under about 300 milligrams a day, which is around two regular cups of coffee.
When I was breastfeeding my little ones, I played it safe at first. I wanted to make sure they weren’t extra fussy or having trouble sleeping. Plus, I was all about sneaking in a nap whenever I could, and too much coffee can mess with that. If you’re ever in doubt or notice your baby reacting differently, it doesn’t hurt to talk with your pediatrician.
