The idea for this travel inspired nursery came straight from real life. In the summer of 2024, we packed up and traveled with our two daughters who were 1.5 and 4.5 at the time. From California to Connecticut, t was busy and stretching in the best way. Seeing the world through their eyes made me fall in love with traveling all over again.
A travel inspired nursery is about creating a space that feels welcoming and full of possibility. It’s a gentle reminder that the world is wide and worth exploring, even from the very beginning!

I never felt bit by the “travel bug” until after I had kids, which has been an interesting experience. I’ve become a pro at packing coolers and piling everything in the car like a suburban mom version of Tetris. Even though our trips are small, they’ve show me the joy of experiencing new places with my kids.
We even printed everyone in our family a map so the kids can color in which states they’ve been to. I’m leading the pack at 26 so far. I’m hoping that the girls can see all 50 states before they graduate high school!
Travel Elements to Include in Your Nursery
There are many different ways to incorporate travel into your little one’s nursery. Some of my favorites include maps and postcards. You can even have relatives and friends write your baby postcards from their travels and make them into a book or wall art. My sister sends my daughters dozens of postcards each year and they are one of our most prized possessions!
Here’s an exhaustive list of what you can include (you can also find ideas on my Storefront here!)
- Trains and rail details
- Airplanes or hot air balloons
- Postcards pinned to a board or framed on the wall
- Vintage luggage used as decor or storage
- Old world style maps as wall art
- Globes on a shelf or dresser
- Suitcase stacks for books or toys
- Directional signs with city names (this Etsy shop makes custom aluminum street signs!)
- Travel themed storybooks
- Passport style milestone cards
- World flag prints used in soft tones
- Adventure quote wall art
- Wooden vehicles with a travel feel
- Nursery mobiles with planes or balloons
I also love these vintage National Park posters.

Vintage vs Modern Travel Nursery Styles
A travel inspired nursery can lean either vintage or modern depending on the feeling you want to create. A vintage style often feels softer and more nostalgic. It might include aged maps, warm wood tones, and suitcases that look like they have stories behind them. This style works well if you love antique touches and a cozy, collected look.
A modern travel nursery feels cleaner and more minimal. I think of simple map prints, soft neutrals, and sleek furniture with subtle travel details (ticket stubs, luggage tags, etc.). This style is great if you want a calm space with just a few bold focal points.

Both styles capture the spirit of adventure in different ways. One feels classic and nostalgic while the other feels fresh and open. You can also blend the two for a nursery that feels personal and timeless.
